Back in the summer of ’08 my family and I were looking for a new home. What I thought would be an exciting time in our lives quickly turned into “mission impossible.” Every home I viewed was either very average or poorly built. After three months of searching in Chesterfield, Appomattox, and Powhatan counties I finally told my real estate agent to send me the Amelia county listings. Suddenly my search ended. I’ll never forget the day I drove up to my new “dream home” and the sign in the front of the yard said, J.L. Rogers Builders “SECOND TO NONE.” The sign was an understatement. I stepped on the front of the wrap around porch and noticed the quality brickwork, the composite decking, and the stained pine ceiling with recessed lighting. My agent immediately said, “this must be a good builder.” I was ready to put a contract on the home and had yet to walk inside. Once inside I noticed the upgraded wood floors, Pella windows, granite counter tops in all bathrooms and the kitchen, stainless steel appliances, crown molding throughout, upgraded carpet, and beautiful tile work. Everything was perfect, from the built in TV/book case to the gorgeous up graded cabinetry in the kitchen to the decorative door handles and various matching hardware. Can you believe this is a spec home???? A short time later I heard my six year old son yell, “We’re home!” Even at his tender age he felt what I felt, after all the poor boy had already toured over 30 homes. My daughter couldn’t wait to pick out her room and marveled at the bedroom with the full bath marked by tasteful tile work. My wife and I were beside ourselves. We were indeed home. Our agent had scheduled several other homes to view after this one but after seeing J.L. Roger’s home I didn’t even bother getting out of the agent’s car to view them. The agent knew I was done looking and said we would write up a contract in the morning. I was having no parts of it and quickly demanded we go back to his office and write a contract immediately.

I have bought numerous cars and several homes in my life and the onset of buyer’s remorse was never too far away after making the deal. However, I will say with all of my heart I have never had a second of remorse after buying this home. If you seek the best quality and craftsmanship and more importantly an honest builder then J.L. Rogers is the man. J.L. is honest, approachable and eager to please his customers. I can never say enough good things about J.L. Rogers.
